This application oriented project “Grammar Based Design: Customized New Housing for Mardin”, is run by Assist. Prof. Birgül Çolakoğlu. The aim of the project is to design and build new sustainable housing in Mardin. Grammar based design methods are used to extract the principles of traditional house architecture of Mardin, to create new housing language derived from the principles of old one and to build customized housing in Mardin.

The project has two goals:

•  to use new industrialized building technologies in the developing areas of GAP (Güneydoğu Anadolu Projesi- Southeastern Anatolian Project- A multi-dimensional development plan for southeastern part of Turkey )

•  to design and built new sustainable housing considering the morphology, climate, and the cultural assets of the area.

It is aimed to expand this project with EU s 6th Framework Program. The current work outlines the primary research of the actual project.
